What is ExtraLib.Com?

ExtraLib.Com is a free service for qualifying medical libraries. The service includes a unique, private URL for your library web site, and up to 20 MB of free hard disk space so that you can create your own virtual library.

How does ExtraLib.Com work?

Medical libraries may submit a request for a free virtual server by using the form below. You will receive prompt acknowledgement of your request and, if accepted, a web site will be set up at the following URL:

http://www.ExtraLib.Com/yourlibraryname
You will also receive a username and password allowing you to ftp your own pages to that web site. Within hours you could be offering this new service to your patrons.

It's free - what's the catch?

Aries Systems is a vendor of bibliographic and full text medical databases. We require that first page on the web site includes buttons which link to our services - the rest of the first page, and web site can be customized by you. We also trust that you will evaluate and subscribe to our web-based information products if they meet your patrons' needs.

Can we limit access to just our patrons?

Yes. If your institution requires that the library web page is only available within your institution, we will implement IP address checking and/or password control, so that only patrons on your network have access.

How do I create and upload web pages?

You are responsible for creating your own web pages in HTML and for uploading them using FTP. As a free service, we cannot provide technical support for these activities, but there are numerous web resources to assist you with this project.
