Security on the internet is of great concern to everyone. Some sites have put in place added security through the use of a firewall or a proxy server. A firewall protects your network by allowing only certain types of transmissions to go to and come from the internet. A proxy server hides your machine's real IP address from the general internet community and is often used together with a firewall. 

Firewalls may deny access for our EXPERT Knowledge Finder software to search our internet databases. We have devised a small test that might determine if you have a firewall located at your site or through your internet service provider. 

  1. Check to see if your web browser is using a proxy server. To do this with Netscape, select "Network Preferences" from the "Options" menu, and click on the "Proxies" tab. If "No Proxies" is selected, then you do not use a proxy server. If "Manual Proxy Configuration" is selected, you must click on the "View" button and see if there any of the fields are filled in. If all the fields are blank, then you do not use a proxy server. With Microsoft Internet Explorer, choose "Options" from the "View" menu. If the "Connect through a proxy server" item is not checked, then you do not use a proxy server. In any other case, you are using a proxy server. Knowledge Finder version 4.2 is compatible with most proxy servers. 
  2. Check to see if your site or service provider is using a firewall that will prevent Knowledge Finder from communicating with Aries Systems Database Servers
If you failed either of these two tests, please print out our Firewall Compatibility page and give it to your IS department. They will be able to determine if the firewall can be made to allow you to use Knowledge Finder

You may review recent software fixes and enhancements before downloading the software. 

The current production version of Knowledge Finder is Version 4.33, released on February 8, 2002. 

Please note that Aries Systems is no longer producing new Knowledge Finder releases for older Windows 3.x and 68k Macintosh systems. If you have one of these older operating systems, the most recent version of Knowledge Finder that you can use is Version 4.22. To get Version 4.22, click here, otherwise click below on the type of computer that you have to continue downloading the most recent version.
