, published by the American Psychological Association, covers publications in the fields of psychology and behavior (human and animal), including such subject areas as social, clinical, cognitive, developmental, and educational psychology, and neuropsychology. Covering 1887 through the present (more than 110 years!), it includes references and abstracts for articles from approximately 1,300 journals, and also for book chapters and books. Comprehensive coverage of books is provided from 1987 to the present, including Tables-of-Contents linked to individual chapter descriptions. The APA Thesaurus of Psychological Index Terms is included.

While incorporating all of the PsycLIT content, and all Knowledge Finder® access tools (including fuzzy and Boolean text searching), the Knowledge Finder implementation offers a unique feature set:

• All contents of PsycLIT (references to journals, book chapters and books) are published in a single database on two CD-ROM discs.
• Book chapter and book entries offer hypertext cross-access. Book records showing chapter contents have hot-links to the associated chapter records. Chapter records, in turn, have hot-links to adjacent chapters, as well as to the ÒparentÓ book record.
• References within a PsycLIT document to other PsycLIT database entries are hot-linked. Linked records are displayed in separate document windows, allowing multiple documents to be viewed on-screen simultaneously.
• Fuzzy logic and Boolean searching make finding documents simple and fast.
• Acclaimed Knowledge Finder search software for Windows^TM and Macintosh® makes content access intuitive with minimal learning.
• Easy-to-implement network access with Knowledge Server® lets multiple workstations access the database simultaneously, from CD-ROM or from fast magnetic storage.
• Fully compatible with Aries' Knowledge Host® client/server network technology, providing high-performance network access in institutional environments.

Advanced Retrieval Technology

Finding the documents you're looking for is as easy as just typing the few words that you think best characterize the article. Knowledge Finder's unique fuzzy logic searching uses precise mathematical analysis to judge how closely each article appears to match your search query. And search results are presented in order of likely relevance, showing you the closest matches first, and saving you time reviewing search results. For precise searching, just click a button to activate Knowledge Finder's Boolean Search mode. With the traditional Boolean operators, nested parenthesization and truncation, you can fine tune your search to identify the specific article for which you're looking.

Term Dictionaries

Term Dictionaries let you quickly find all articles by a particular author or in a specific journal, as well as providing access by publication and indexing date, publication type, and other journal and book/chapter characteristics.

APA Thesaurus of Psychological Index Terms

PsycLIT with Knowledge Finder provides you with a full and powerful implementation of the APA Thesaurus of Psychological Index Terms. The PsycLIT thesaurus lets you identify controlled vocabulary by both authorized and entry terminology. Hyperlinks let you explore related and preferred terms. Context/explosion tools let you identify and search with broader and narrower concept sets. Scope notes guide you in the correct interpretation and use of thesaurus terms.

Document Display

Retrieved documents are displayed on your computer screen showing the full PsycLIT bibliographic record, including abstracts, content notes and Tables-of-Contents where available. The documents are presented in order of likely relevance, so you'll see the more focused documents sooner. Book/Chapter hot-links let you quickly navigate between related entries in a monograph citation. Cited cross-references between APA documents are also hot-linked, letting you quickly and easily explore the "See #..." references.

Flexible Subscriptions

PsycLIT is for institutional use only, with annual subscriptions available for both single station and network environments. All PsycLIT subscriptions include quarterly updates, Knowledge Finder software and updates, documentation, and telephone support.
