FOR RELEASE: Immediately Leading Biomedical Publisher, Humana Press, Taps New Markets with DocuRights® Secure Container Technology North Andover, MA, USA -- October 17, 2000. Humana Press (Totowa, NJ, USA) and Aries Systems Corporation (North Andover, MA, USA) have agreed to distribute 12 top quality biomedical journals in PDF/DocuRights format. DocuRights is a "secure container" technology that protects PDF files inside a cryptographic envelope. This means that users are free to download and share files, but when the file is opened the document "calls home" so that users can purchase access rights. In this way, DocuRights protects the copyright of the publisher, while providing maximum flexibility for end users who naturally want to share documents. Humana Press is a major worldwide publisher of books and journals in molecular biology, neuroscience, cancer research, and medicine. The journals covered under this agreement include: Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Biological Trace Element Research, Cell Biochemistry and Biophysics, Clinical Reviews in Allergy and Immunology, Endocrine, Endocrine Pathology, Immunologic Research, , Journal of Clinical Densitometry, Journal of Molecular Neuroscience, Journal of Urologic Pathology, Molecular Biotechnology, and Molecular Neurobiology. Thomas B. Lanigan, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Humana Press, said: "DocuRights is an attractive proposition because it allows us to achieve broad distribution of our valuable content, without compromising copyrights. DocuRights creates new distribution opportunities that would not be viable with unprotected documents." Lyndon Holmes, President of Aries Systems Corporation, the developers of DocuRights, added: "We are delighted that Humana Press have entrusted such a vast library of high quality content to DocuRights, and look forward to increasing its visibility through our network of worldwide portal partners." Since the launch of DocuRights at the 1999 Frankfurt Book Fair it has been used with content from an increasing number of leading STM publishers, including the Massachusetts Medical Society (publishers of the New England Journal of Medicine, Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, and S. Karger (Basel, Switzerland).
