Latest Version of DocuRights® Combines the Benefits of "Secure Container" Technology with IP Address Authentication for PDF Files

North Andover, MA, USA -- November 27, 2000. Aries Systems Corporation, the developers of DocuRights "secure container" technology, has further enhanced the product by implementing IP Address authentication capabilities.

DocuRights protects PDF files by enveloping the content in a secure container that "calls home" to obtain access authorization. Until now, the authorization process has been triggered by the successful processing of a credit card transaction. However, the new release of DocuRights enables publishers to override the credit card process by specifying authorized IP addresses.

This means that a publisher can disseminate protected PDF files that will automatically open on authorized IP addresses, but will revert to protected pay-per-view format if the PDF strays outside of the IP address range. IP addresses can be entered manually by publishers, or determined by a real-time lookup to the publisher's subscription database, thereby leaving the publisher in total control of commercial transactions.

Richard Wynne, Director of Sales and Marketing at Aries, commented: "Although publishers have been granting access to PDF files based on IP authentication for many years, security of their content has been compromised because legitimate users could pass along PDF files to unauthorized third parties. DocuRights closes this loophole, and creates new revenue opportunities for the publisher. While providing unrestricted access on an authorized IP domain, DocuRights protects the document in a secure container that triggers pay-per-view charges if it is redistributed beyond the authorized domain."

Since the launch of DocuRights (http://www.docurights.com) at the 1999 Frankfurt Book Fair it has been used with content from a growing number of leading STM (Scientific, Technical and Medical) publishers, including the Massachusetts Medical Society (publishers of the New England Journal of Medicine), Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, Humana Press and S. Karger (Basel, Switzerland). Please call 978-975-7570 to receive graphics, photographs and additional information.
